Built in 1954, the original Kumasi Central Hospital was later named Komfo Anokye Hospital after Okomfo Anokye, a legendary fetish priest of the Ashanti. It is said that Anokye placed an unmovable sword in the middle of the Ashanti empire, and many have tried and failed to remove it. In 1996, the Okomfo Anokye Sword Site was built around the sword on the grounds of the hospital.

The Manhyia, translated from the Akan language as “gathering of the towns” or “people's palace,” is a must-see for travelers. The seat, or throne, of the Asantehene (The Ashanti King) resides here. The palace is one of the highest cultural and historical structures in Ghana. Built in 1925 by the British after the third Anglo-Ashanti war in 1874, this architectural marvel has a rich history, providing historical insight into the cultural legacy prior to Great Britain’s colonization of the country. It primarily serves to communicate the richness of Ghana’s history and culture for future generations.
